Project Log: Simple Fabric Bookmarks
I joined a neighborhood bookclub last year, and while working on holiday projects, decided it might be fun to make some simple fabric bookmarks for the group.
If I’m honest, I expected them to be pretty, but I didn’t realize how functional they would be. I love these fabric bookmarks, and since I often have many books going at one time, I am always searching for a book mark. But not any more, I’ve got them stacked all over just in case.
These are simple to make, just cut three squares at four by four inches, and one piece of interfacing at three and a half by three and a half inches.
Iron the interfacing to the center of one square, then sandwich it right sides together. Fold the third square diagonally, and tuck it in the middle of the sandwich, lining up the corners.
Stitch around the edges with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, and leaving about 1 1/2 inch open on one side.
Turn the sandwich right side out, and iron.
Top stitch about an 1/8th of an inch in around the outside. That’s it!
I used 8x8 inch square quilting fabric swatches from spoonflower. One swatch creates four 4x4 squares. So you can make one bookmark per swatch, or mix and match fabrics, and make four bookmarks from three swatches.
