A Nostalgic and Happy Painting

I have an ongoing series of paintings using references from my collection of antique photos. But this is the one I consider to be first in the series, where I finally felt I was able to convey the feelings I wanted to.

I fell in love with the original photo because of the expression of the woman on the left. She is so clearly enamored with the main subject, I love the look of amusement on her face.

The back of the photo has writing, ‘Ruthie Burton, the dearest one to me,” and I recreated this in the back ground of the sky, you can just see it peeking through. I don’t know for sure, but I assume Ruthie is the subject of the photo and the person that took it clearly loves her as much as the smiling woman to the left.

The original hangs on my wall, but prints in various sizes are available here in the shop.
