Project: Frog in the rhubarb
I’m always trying to improve and get my images closer to what I see in mind. This month I took Botanical Watercolor Painting taught by Helena Smyth at Domestika.
I enjoyed the class quite a bit and definitely recommend it if you are interested in watercolor painting or botanical painting specifically.
I’ll admit I didn’t fully follow instructions for the project assignment, (my result is much different than her work, which is a good thing!) however I did learn a lot following her advice for using a collage to develop my composition, that is something I will take forward with me in my practice.
I also quite liked watching her way of creating various textures, and it highlighted to me that this is an area where I can improve.
Scroll down for my finished project.
This is quite different than my usual paintings so I don’t think I’ll be offering it in my shop, but if you love the original please reach out, I offer my experiments for ‘pay what you want’. Send me an email with an offer and I’ll take it.
Moving on to try to continue the botanical themes, but pushing the surrealism. More on that next month.
